FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Stockholm - Tuesday February 14th 2025 – Acclaimed musician Ulf Sandström unveils his latest release, "Back Into The Light", a deeply moving, roots-infused track that explores the journey of addiction recovery. With a fusion of joyful blues, Americana, and heartfelt storytelling, the song serves as a beacon of hope for those reclaiming their lives from addiction.
A Song with a Purpose
"Back Into The Light" isn’t just a song—it’s a mission. Inspired by real-life experiences and the transformative power of music, hypnosis, and somatic therapies in addiction recovery, Ulf Sandström crafts a narrative that resonates deeply with those who have struggled with addiction, as well as their families and support networks.
What makes this song especially powerful is its collaborative creation. The lyrics were developed in partnership with participants of the HARP program (Helping Addicts Recover Progressively) at Chesterfield County Jail in Virginia, USA—giving voice to those who have faced the darkest moments of addiction and are finding their way back into the light.
"Music has an incredible ability to reach people in ways words alone cannot," says Sandström. "With 'Back Into The Light,' I wanted to create a piece that not only tells a story but also serves as a companion for those navigating the challenges of recovery—especially when shame becomes a barrier. By letting go of shame and focusing on stepping back into the light, the road beyond sobriety can be much shorter."
Musical Influences & Sound
Blending New Orleans-flavored Americana and roots rock, "Back Into The Light" features rich New Orleans-style piano, powerful vocals, and an uplifting brass band finale. The track delivers a sound that is both raw and hopeful, creating an emotional experience that mirrors the ups and downs of the recovery journey.
Fans of Dr John, Keb’ Mo’, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will find a familiar yet fresh energy in Sandström’s signature style—authentic, soulful, and deeply human.
Raising Awareness & Collaborations
Beyond the music, Sandström is committed to using this song to support addiction recovery communities, mental health programs, and awareness campaigns. He invites organizations, mental health professionals, and fellow musicians to collaborate in spreading its message and breaking the stigma surrounding addiction.
"Recovery is a journey that requires support, strength, and hope beyond the traditional cave of shame. If this song can be a small part of that process for even one person, then it has done its job," he adds.
